My writing for today is about LibraryLink. It is a service that provides links to articles about libraries. Sometimes the articles are quite interesting. Today's link is about a town in the states that is toying with the possibility of going private with their library.
I think that possibility is shocking even more so is it wouldn't be the first library system in the states to do so. The loss of benefits to library workers is one of many things to be nervous about but the cost of such things is why they are thinking of going private.
My main concern is the library charging for services. The poorer may not be able to afford the service. When you are just scrapping by every dollar counts. Instead of going to the library they may just do without.
In Canada some public libraries charge a user fee. From what I have heard these are usually based in Alberta which the tax system is different then the rest of the country. I think the main reason is the provincial government doesn't provide as much funding as it should.
